From the happiest ecstasy of love to the deepest despair: Robert Schumann's "Dichterliebe", based on texts by Heinrich Heine, is a story with all the facets of a truly passionate love. The cycle was composed in 1840, the year in which the composer, after a long struggle and against all external resistance, was allowed to tie the knot with the piano virtuoso Clara Wieck. At the same time, 1840 was the year that went down as the "song year" in the composer's oeuvre. This edition makes this world-famous song repertoire accessible for choirs and opens up a new sound experience. The familiar melodies appear in a new guise but are still closely oriented to Schumann's ideas. Hye-Young Cho is one of South Korea's leading composers and has created a finely nuanced arrangement. She uses the vocal groups of the choir in a very varied and targeted manner. Harmonically, she strictly follows Schumann's piano setting (which she adopts unchanged) and thus manages to preserve the simple yet intense character of the songs.
