Description:
The frequently set Psalm 100 was also included by Heinrich Schütz as a double-choir composition in the printed edition of the "Psalms of David" from 1619. The arrangement of the original version with double echo presented here was probably performed on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Reformation in the Hofkirche in Dresden in 1617. The idea of the double echo chorus - undoubtedly not intended by Schütz as a mere play of sound, but as an image of the echoing of praise of God through "all the world" - can be brought to vivid effect through a spatially separated choral arrangement, especially with wind instruments.
