Description:
Ottorino Respighi completed the sacred choral work "Lauda per la Natività del Signore" in 1930, which remains unique in his oeuvre. In this hymn of praise to the Christmas miracle, sonorous choral passages alternate with solo parts by Mary, the angel and the shepherd, accompanied by the sound of shepherds' instruments. The music is stylistically diverse and plays with elements ranging from late romantic to neo-baroque as well as echoes of Gregorian chant. Respighi's characterful art of orchestration is captivating. This little-known Christmas cantata is available for the first time in a source-critical edition based on the autograph and thus reveals a new facet of Respighi's oeuvre.
