Description:
Written on the occasion of a wedding in 2006, Love is beautiful indeed is a setting of a poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806-61), which is part of the tenth sonnet of her Sonnets from the Portuguese. The piece begins unaccompanied with warm harmonies, but then quickly moves on to reflect the text line 'Fire is bright...and love is fire' ('Fire is bright...and love is fire'). It is at this moment that the strong organ accompaniment enters, underscoring the deeply passionate central section, before the mood relaxes again and the piece returns to the calm of the opening.
Suitable for intermediate-level choirs, this setting of a secular text is an exciting and welcome addition to the repertoire of pieces that focus on love.
