Description:
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's "Magnificat" was composed in 1749 and clearly bears the characteristics of "rehearsal music", which organists and cantors had to present when applying for a new position. This peculiarity is expressed above all in the stylistic diversity of the music, which makes this first major vocal work by the then 35-year-old composer a challenging and varied task for any choir, even today. The polyphonic parts of the composition are particularly appealing, as they closely resemble Johann Sebastian Bach's Mass in B minor in terms of sound and structure. The arrangement for soloists, choir and organ is an equivalent version which makes the work accessible to a large number of choirs, even with limited financial resources.
