Description:
With a musically convincing and in many respects highly original interpretation of the liturgical text, Herzogenberg's mass represents a final highlight in the late Romantic repertoire of the "Missa solemnis" genre. Herzogenberg wrote the mass in the spirit of Bach on the occasion of the death of his friend, the Bach biographer Philipp Spitta. The Agnus Dei is one of the greatest movements in Herzogenberg's oratorio oeuvre.
The score presented here for the first time makes one of Herzogenberg's most effective works accessible for musical practice.
