Description:
A special mass for a special occasion: Giovanni Alberti Ristori's (Christmas) Messa per il Santissimo Natale. From 1715 to 1753, Ristori rose to the position of Vice-Kapellmeister at the Electoral Saxon and Royal Polish Court in Dresden and composed mainly dramatic music and church music for the Catholic court church. Ristori's operatic experience and the first-class orchestra there with renowned virtuosos in its ranks allowed him to combine extraordinary instrumental sound effects with attractive contrasts in the vocal writing in his festive mass of 1744. The musical qualities of Ristori's Christmas Mass can also be heard on the CD Weihnachten am Dresdner Hof (Carus 83.169) with the Vocal Concert Dresden under Peter Kopp.
