Description:
Friedrich Koenen was the conductor of the cathedral choir at Cologne Cathedral for many years. He wrote dignified sacred vocal works for his choirs in particular, which have lost none of their practicality to this day. In this mass, which is being performed here for the first time in over 150 years, there are calmly flowing melodies with no obstacles in a comfortable middle range for both voices, which is accessible to every choir singer, relaxed motivic work and an overall sound embedded in early Romantic colors. For choirs with a limited number of singers and those with little rehearsal time available for a particular occasion, this is a welcome addition to the repertoire that can be learned quickly.
