Cherubini's "Messe solennelle in G" was originally composed for a planned coronation ceremony in 1819. However, the celebrations did not take place. The mass disappeared into oblivion and was only rediscovered late in the 20th century. It is performed entirely without soloists. With its rich choral sound, refined instrumental textures and wealth of tonal colors, this work is a highlight of Romantic church music.
