Description:
The liturgical mass text is set to typical rhythms and styles from Brazil and forms a bridge from sacred European choral music to the rhythmic intensity of South America.
Harmonies from the Renaissance and early Baroque merge with melodies and rhythms from Indian and Afro-Brazilian music. Popular styles such as bossa nova, samba and baião are also incorporated.
The work is easily accessible and the instrumental accompaniment is variable:
> small instrumentation: choir, piano, cajón, shakes
> full instrumentation: piano, bass, drumset and Brazilian percussion.
The work is framed by a soprano solo and cello.
