Description:
The Latin mass text is archaic, universal and unifying. For the 2015 German Protestant Church Congress, Tilman Jäger set the old text to a contemporary soundtrack under the title Missa Pacis. Impressive sounds, mystical-meditative moods, Latin American rhythms, catchy melodies and a "Dona nobis pacem" to sing along to combine to form a whole in Missa Pacis.
The one-hour composition is conceived for 4-8-part choir with optional solo voices and accompanying band. The work is tonal throughout, but offers a stylistic range that extends from classical choral symphonic music to rhythmic choral movements with influences from gospel, jazz and pop. The parts for the accompanying band are fully notated. In some parts of the mass, the instrumentalists can also improvise.
