Description:
The Roman composer Casali is primarily known today for his short 'Missa in G' (BU 145). However, the chapel master in S. Giovanni in Laterano wrote many more masses, most of which have remained unpublished. From this collection, we present an ordinarium for soloists, SATB and basso continuo in the first edition, which impressively demonstrates the composer's great skill. The frequent alternation between homophonic and polyphonic sections in the choral parts and the participation of the soloists (about a third of the total) create an exciting and varied dramaturgy, despite the evenness of the vocal progressions. The moderate performance time (21 minutes, without Credo 15 minutes) means that this rewarding work fits easily into any liturgy.
