Große Credomesse - Mozart greift hier wie in seiner früheren 'Kleinen Credomesse' KV 192 eine kirchenmusikalische Praxis auf, die seit Beginn des 18. Jahrhunderts in Süddeutschland und Österreich nachgewiesen ist. Die mehrfache Wiederholung der Anfangsworte des 'Credo' setzte voraus, dass die Vertonung der Intonation 'Credo in unum Deum' liturgisch überhaupt toleriert wurde.Konnte man die sonst vom Zelebranten allein vorgetragene Intonation in die mehrstimmige Komposition einbeziehen, so war es nur ein kleiner und syntaktisch logischer Schritt, das 'Credo' vor den einzelnen Glaubensartikeln zu wiederholen und damit das Glaubenszeugnis zu bekräftigen.
