This Missa solemnis in C major (before 1764) is recommended for performance to all those who would like to get to know Leopold Mozart not only as the composer of a musical sleigh ride and author of a famous violin school, but also as a serious "church composer". This edition is the first time that a mass by Mozart's father has appeared in print with complete performance material. The work follows the type of Neapolitan "cantata mass" in the stile misto, which was rather uncommon in Salzburg (Mozart's place of work at the time), in which partly polyphonic choral movements alternate with solo parts of a concertante or arioso character. A "large", solemn mass which can also be easily performed by an amateur ensemble.
