Description:
The work is conceived as a semi-scenic choral work in which the tuba player embodies the character from the poem. The music explores the rhythmic nuances of the German text. These rhythms form the basis for the solo tuba's written improvisation. In the final section, the choir takes on the sound of an R&B a cappella group, with the tuba providing the bass groove while the bass singers rhythmically recite or "rap" the text of the piece.
