With light brushstrokes, Anna Cederberg-Orreteg paints an expressive interpretation of David Carlson's poem. The melody wanders between the voices and the structure is broken up into clearly contrasting parts. We hear the stars falling and are filled with wonder over "billions and again billions of little anchored lights in the night". The music is set for a four-part mixed choir at a medium level with divisions in a few characteristically jazz-colored harmonies. That Night of Falling Stars was commissioned in 2018 by UNGiKÖR, (Swedish Association of Children and Youth Choirs) for the Swedish Youth Choir and Prof. Erik Westberg.
The English version of Carlson's poem is by Anna Högberg.
That Night of Falling Stars is the first work in the series #swedishchoralmusic 2022, a collaboration between Gehrmans Musikförlag and the Swedish Society of Composers, that aims to to balance the equality in choral music. With the support of the Swedish Music Publishers' Association and the STIM Forward Fund.
