Description:
"Navidad Nuestra" by Argentinian composer Ariel Ramírez is a colorful and deeply moving choral work that tells the Christmas story from a Latin American perspective. Composed in 1964, almost at the same time as the famous "Misa Criolla", Ramírez set texts by the poet Félix Luna to music. The work consists of six movements that depict the journey from the Annunciation to the birth of Jesus and the flight to Egypt.
The special feature of this composition is the use of traditional Argentinian folk dances and rhythms. Each part of the work is based on a specific regional style, such as the chamamé, the huella or the vidala. This combination of sacred themes and lively folklore gives "Navidad Nuestra" an unmistakable dynamism and emotional immediacy. With its rousing rhythms and heartfelt melodies, the work is one of the most popular examples of South American choral music in the world and is a highlight of any Christmas concert.
