The cantata "Nach dir, Herr, verlanget mich" BWV 150 is one of Bach's earliest cantatas from his Mühlhausen period. For a long time, its authenticity was disputed, a fact which was not only due to the stylistic peculiarities of this early work, but also to the late transmission of the cantata from the time after Bach's death. In the meantime, however, a hidden dedication to a member of the Mühlhausen council and Bach's patron, Conrad Meckbach, has been deciphered in the text: The initial letters of the freely composed sentences result in the name "Doctor Conrad Meckbach" (in the spelling of the 18th century), thus providing a link to the town of Mühlhausen and probably also confirming Bach's authorship of the cantata. However, the reason for its composition remains unknown to this day. The small instrumental scoring with just two violins, bassoon and continuo, as well as the fact that only the soprano is given a solo movement, suggest a performance with sparse resources.
