Nefischer, who served for many years as choirmaster in Mauthausen and was a personal acquaintance of Anton Bruckner, stands firmly in the tradition of the church music of Joseph and Michael Haydn. The Mass is composed for mixed choir and small orchestra, but can be performed just as effectively with organ alone.
