Description:
Francesco Basili (Loreto, Milan, Rome) is one of the Italian composers who enjoyed great popularity at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries – both in church music and opera circles – but whose work was completely unjustly forgotten in the 20th century. From his rich fund of sacred vocal music, a Christmas responsory is presented here in the first edition, which paints in delicate colours the dialogical sequence in which the shepherds tell of the newborn Redeemer and the host of angels praising God, whereby "thirds" and a swaying 12/8 time do not disappoint the musical Christmas expectations. The beautiful-sounding, five-minute work is suitable for performances throughout the Christmas celebration cycle; short, simple solo passages can be sung both as a soloist and by the whole choir. With Latin and German texts.
