Description:
Johann Adolf Hasse's Requiem in B flat was probably composed in the second half of the 1750s and is presented here for the first time in a printed version. Nothing is known about the purpose of this beautiful-sounding work, nor whether it was ever performed during the composer's lifetime. Perhaps the Seven Years' War, in which Hasse's employer Elector August III of Saxony was also involved, prevented a performance. The fact that Hasse held his composition in high esteem is shown by several adaptations in the Requiem in C and the later Requiem in E flat.
