Description:
1 - Kaera-Jaan. This is a dance song from Estonia with simple lyrics that refer to life on a farm. "Jaan, go and see if the oats and barley are growing well. Have the chickens eaten them? Drive away the birds!" 2 - Greensleeves is an old English song sung by a man in despair at being rejected by a lady nicknamed "Green Sleeves". The melancholy nature of the melody is emphasized by expressive chromatic harmonies, intended to be sung a cappella, although backing music is provided for the rehearsal. 3 - Hey Sokoły is a lively song known both in Poland and Ukraine. The title means "Hey, hawks". A Cossack soldier laments having to leave his beloved and his country, Ukraine. 4 - My Bonny Lies Over the Ocean is a traditional Scottish song. The historical references are unclear. A special feature of this arrangement is that the third verse is in a minor key to reflect the words "I dreamed that my bonnie was dead".
