In his new work "Sun, Moon and Stars", composer Peter Schindler combines texts from five centuries to create a kaleidoscope of life. The everyday and the hilarious are sung about just as much as the profound. Some of the texts were penned by important poets, while other texts were collected from the people and included in the magnificent collection "Des Knaben Wunderhorn" as "author unknown".
With the title "Scenic Cantata", the composer chose a genre which, on the one hand, refers back to the term cantata as a work for various types of singing with instrumental accompaniment, but on the other hand, due to the possibility of scenic presentation, is close to opera or musicals in some places. "... a colorful cosmos of sound, seemingly removed from time, with references to the music of the Renaissance, Baroque, chanson, jazz and musicals, and yet contemporary in its freshness and hardly heard. ... Away from musical eclecticism, Schindler has developed a unique, highly independent tonal language that effortlessly recapitulates European cultural history in one evening."
