Description:
Schubert probably composed the Latin "Stabat Mater" D175 without a direct commission between the 4th and 6th of April 1815. According to Pope Benedict XIII's instructions of 1727, it is intended as a sequence for the feast of the "Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary" on September 15th. Schubert only set the first four of the 20 verses of the Stabat Mater, but twice with a concluding coda
