Description:
I composed "Thank You" in the 1990s for a gospel/jazz quintet from northern France, of which I was the artistic director and a member. At the time, we were looking for an encore to close the concert that would stand out from the usual fare—a piece that would leave the audience with one last powerful memory just before they left the hall. This piece was born out of that desire. Instead of a mere encore, I wanted a genuine gesture of appreciation: music that thanks the audience for coming, acknowledges their attention and enthusiasm throughout the concert, and invites them to return. Thus, "Thank You" concludes the concert on a warm, unifying note, entirely in the spirit of sharing that is so characteristic of gospel music. Carried by a rousing groove and rich vocal harmonies, the piece is ideal as a program finale and unites musicians and audience in a shared surge of joy and gratitude.
