Description:
The importance Mozart attached to his vespers can be seen from the fact that in a letter dated March 12, 1783 he asked his father to send the two works to him in Vienna in order to make them known to Baron Gottfried van Swieten. The Divine Office chants KV 321 and Vesperae solennes de Confessore KV 339, known as Vesperae de Dominica, contain Psalms 109 (Dixit), 110 (Confitebor), 111 (Beatus vir), 112 (Laudate pueri), 116 (Laudate Dominum) and the Canticum Magnificat. The individual psalms are self-contained; the doxology that concludes them is developed from the themes of the individual psalms.
