The cantata "Wir danken dir, Gott, wir danken dir" (BWV 29) by Johann Sebastian Bach is a festive council change cantata that was premiered in Leipzig on August 27, 1731. It was composed on the occasion of the ceremonial inauguration of the new city council and is characterized by a particularly glamorous orchestration with trumpets and timpani.

An outstanding feature of the work is the introductory Sinfonia, an arrangement of the prelude from Bach's Partita for solo violin in E major, in which the organ takes on a virtuoso solo role. The eponymous opening chorus also achieved particular fame, as Bach later used this music as a model for the "Gratias agimus tibi" and the concluding "Dona nobis pacem" of his monumental Mass in B minor.
