In her choral piece "anima," composer Katharina Schwaller brings the complexity of the human soul to life through music. This is achieved through the five-part vocal arrangement, which reflects the soul’s myriad nuances and emotions. Dense soundscapes alternate with delicate, floating vocal textures, creating a multi-layered sonic world. The starting point is the idea of being awakened in the morning by a gentle breeze and perceiving the world and nature through sound. Imitated bird calls introduce a sonic perception of the environment. As the piece progresses, the different voices take on a narrative role. An easy-to-perform, atmospheric work for mixed choirs.
