Description:
The poem "The Resurrection" by Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock was set to music by Gustav Mahler in the fifth movement of his Second Symphony, also known as "Resurrection". The central movement from Mahler's text setting was used in 2011 in "A Tribute to Mahler", a composition written as a tribute to Mahler, 100 years after his death. Powerful brass sounds and delicate woodwind melodies alternate in a Mahleresque manner with horn and trumpet signals from afar. The chorale is angelically surrounded by the solo alto saxophone. "A Tribute to Mahler", like a continuation of "nach kurzer Ruh", is intended to give us a glimpse into the blissful world we will all one day enter.
