Like all musicians of my generation, I was trained with the help of the forefather of all instruction books: "A Tune a Day" by C. Paul Herfurth (1893-1988). "A Tune a Day" is a famous series of music instruction books for beginners developed in the 1930s to teach instrumental technique through daily practice. It was first published by the Boston Music Company and focused on a structured and step-by-step approach for instruments such as violin and clarinet, before later expanding to brass, woodwinds and guitar. All the melodies used in this piece are taken from my edition of this work. This work was commissioned in 2010 as the finale of a large concert and included three wind orchestras of different levels and 140 additional soloists. This version corresponds to the orchestration for advanced winds and can be performed with 1 to 150 soloists in all keys and voice parts. Note from the conductor: The soloists are the real stars of the concerto; therefore, everything must be played at a level that ensures they can be heard clearly. The loudest passages are reserved for the moments when the soloists are not playing. - The percussion instruments include a duck whistle and a car horn; these can be replaced by any other desired sound effect.
