An Eternal Journey is a musical tribute to our planet Earth, its beauty, strength, fragility and balance. The music is inspired by the four elements of water, fire, air and earth and follows them through four different paintings: Rippling Water, Racing Flames, Shaping Clouds and Remembering Earth.
The piece begins with the calm atmosphere of a lake. The music illustrates its smooth surface, which gradually begins to undulate. The notes flow until they reach the majestic and melancholic main theme of the piece, which describes this fragile oasis of peace.
Then a quick transition leads to the second image, restless and unpredictable. This music imitates the spread of a forest fire around the lake, the flames dancing wildly and tirelessly. The main theme is distorted and becomes mischievous and mocking.
At the end of the movement, it resounds again, gigantic and dramatic, like the fire devouring the forest. Under the heat of the flames, the water turns to steam and flies into the sky to make way for the third painting. This movement symbolizes the wind playing with the clouds and imperceptibly changing their shape. The brass unfurls long chords like steaming leaves, while the woodwinds swirl around them. Under the influence of the wind, the clouds gradually condense into a huge mass of sound that brings rain at the end of the movement. The water returns to the earth and the fourth and final image begins. The first beams represent the roots and seeds that lie dormant deep beneath the surface of the soil. Awakened by the penetrating water and nourished by the fertilizing ashes of the fire, the seeds hatch, return to the surface and finally blossom, accompanied by a triumphant hymn to life. Thanks to the restored vegetation, the lake regains its tranquillity and the final measures bring back the peaceful atmosphere of the beginning. The cycle can begin again. The eternal journey continues...
