Description:
The fast polka 'Auf der Jagd' opus 373 is one of six dance arrangements of melodies from Johann Strauss' operetta 'Cagliostro in Wien' which was premiered in February 1875. The polka received its first performance by the Strauss Orchestra conducted by Eduard Strauss later that year. The polka's title ('On the Hunt') is not directly related to the operetta, which does not contain a hunting scene of any kind at all. At the end of the operetta, Cagliostro is on the run, but there is no pistol shot - only in the polka.
