Rudi Fischer composed this concert march to mark the 100th anniversary of the Trachtenkapelle Todtnauberg e.V. from the southern Black Forest, hence the title "Auf ein Jahrhundert" (Here’s to a Century). The request was for an impressive concert march with a few surprises, a beautiful melody, a great transition, and a grand finale modeled after his hit march "Die Sonne geht auf"—but with that extra "something"! What Rudi has created here is truly worth listening to and worth practicing! As with his previous marches, he’s packed everything into this piece that makes for a first-class concert march: A striking, pompous introduction; a relaxed, march-like opening in the first section with a tenor horn secondary solo during the repeat; a powerful, rich bass solo; an interesting transition (featuring a hidden percussion solo); and a melodic trio with a recognizable theme. But then things really get going: additional instrumentation, additional harmonies, and interesting rhythms in the trio interlude and the trio reprise—culminating in a level of harmonic and rhythmic diversity that’s almost "as much as you can handle." Musicians and listeners alike will be thrilled—a concert march in a class of its own!
