A melody that struck Lukas Burgschwaiger like a bolt of lightning while he was working on his parents’ farm—and that he couldn’t shake—led to the Trio der Polka. Building around this memorable sequence of notes, the composer gradually developed the rest of the piece, thus completing the work. A characteristic feature of the composition is that individual sections of the orchestra repeatedly come to the forefront. The title of the work, "Auszeit" (Time Out), should be understood in a very personal sense. While taking time out is important for everyone and means something different to each person, for the composer it exists only in music. Whether he’s actively making music with his dance band or engaged in the creative process of composing—music is his personal "time out."
