Calisto Y Melibea

Calisto y Melibea is a fantasy for wind orchestra inspired by the literary work La Celestina by Fernando de Rojas. The piece evokes the passionate and tragic relationship between the two main characters and translates the emotional contrasts of the story into musical form.

The composition is based on a clear alternation of sections with different character and tempo: lyrical, calm passages expressing intimacy and longing contrast with lively episodes reflecting the dramatic tension and festive character of certain moments. Two stylistic allusions are particularly striking for their expressive power: the sensuality of the habanera, which accompanies the passages of desire and closeness between the lovers, and the liveliness of the sevillanas, whose energy contrasts strongly with the more intimate mood of other sections.

The combination of these traditional rhythms with the typical timbres and techniques of the wind orchestra creates an intense and emotional musical expression. The listener is led from the fiery opening to the inevitable conclusion, clearly emphasizing the tragic weight of the story.
