Description:
Caribe is the Spanish name for the Caribbean Sea (or Sea of the Antilles). It is also the name of one of the two ethnic groups that inhabited Central-Southern America when Christopher Columbus arrived in the New World: the Arawaks and the Caribs. This piece is inspired by the rhythms and atmospheres that can still be heard and felt in those places today: the strongly syncopated rhythm of the wind and percussion instruments evokes that of the salsa and merengue, while the urgent melody is reminiscent of the landscapes and songs of Central-Southern America. All this is contained in a fresh, light piece, that can be a small bright interlude in the concert.
