Castrum de Dune is an impressive work composed in 2021 on the occasion of the takeover of Dhaun Castle (Rhineland-Palatinate). Originally created as a fanfare and anthem for this ceremonial opening and premiered in a reduced instrumentation, the work enjoyed great success. This developed Michael Klostermann's desire to orchestrate the composition for symphonic wind orchestra. The powerful fanfare opens the piece with distinctive, historically inspired sounds that musically reflect the Roman origins of the region. This is followed by a sublime hymn that describes the majestic flight of an eagle over the castle landscape in an impressive tonal language. With the return of the eagle, the fanfare sounds again - familiar and yet reinterpreted - and leads the work to a harmoniously cohesive, impressive finale. "Castrum de Dune" combines historical echoes with modern orchestral arrangements. The result is an impressive musical experience that takes listeners on a short journey through history and majestic nature.
