This powerful and solemn piece immediately catches the audience's attention and provides an ideal opening or closing flourish to a concert. It was commissioned to celebrate the twinning of the Conservatories of Naples, Rodi Garganico (Foggia) and Salerno. It highlights the brilliance and power of the brass instruments as well as the sweetness and softness of the wood instruments and the dynamism of the percussions. The opening theme, a solemn march played by the shrill-sounding trumpet, is set against a slower, intense and meditative motif played by the euphonium. In the third part the first theme is repeated in augmented form.
