Description:
Centennium was written for Lillestrøm Skolekorps and their conductor Anders H. Halvorsen on the occasion of the band's centennial anniversary in 2023.
The piece is based on a melodic theme that changes character, tempo, time signatures and harmony throughout the work, surrounded by train signals.
Lillestrøm got its train station as early as 1854, as part of the "Hovedbanen" from Oslo to Eidsvoll, Norway's first railway line. For many, the city of Lillestrøm is known as a "train city," and thus the train signals are meant not only to illustrate the city's identity but also to symbolize the band's journey through its first 100 years.
