Description:
Come, Sweet Death ("Komm, Süsser Tod") (BWV 478) is a spiritual song composed by German J.S. Bach, originally intended for solo singing and basso continuo ("figured bass"), but also frequently heard in arrangements and performances by choirs in various line-ups, among others. The lyricist is unknown. This composition has achieved a high degree of popularity.
Note to the conductor: in order to do as much justice to the composer as possible, the arranger has refrained from adding dynamic signs, possibly directions for tempo changes and pre-, intermediate and post-playing. Of course, the conductor is free to take his or her own point of view regarding dynamics and tempo. However, an overly romantic approach is not recommended.
This composition was created with the help of a contribution from the Music Investment Fund, an initiative of Buma/Stemra in cooperation with Voi(C)e, the Copyright Interests Federation and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science in the Netherlands.
