Concerto in D K.314
for Flute - arrangement for wind orchestra
This arrangement was commissioned by MV Liezen,
Kpm. David Luidold - Soloist: Bernhard Kury (Staatskapelle Dresden).
The aim of the arrangement is to approximate the sound character of the string orchestra as closely as possible. The string parts had to be replaced by clarinets and saxophones due to the given instrumentation (symphonic wind orchestra); the original wind parts (oboes and horn) have remained unchanged. The instruments available in the wind orchestra (flugelhorns, tenor horn/baritone and tuba etc.) were incorporated as "support" for the tonal basis. Musical additions in the orchestral arrangement that do not correspond to the "original score" are justified by the fact that the attempt to approximate the "sonority" of a string orchestra made specific additions necessary. The exact observance of the dynamic gradations (often marked with "!!") is of great importance for the tonal realization of the present arrangement.
