This piece consists of three movements. Due to the variety of elements offered it is particularly suitable for use as a 'competition piece': hence the title, 'Contest Music'. 'Intrada': A brilliant fanfare introduces the piece, subsequently intertwining with the melodic elements of the allegro spiritoso that follows, in a graceful and carefree atmosphere. 'Lullaby': a sweet lullaby dedicated to a little girl. 'Gaily': a joyful finale characterised by a lively rhythmic structure.
