Description:
Franz Watz, the grand master of brass music, composed a lively solo polka for flugelhorn, tenor horn, tuba, and wind orchestra, in which the cloverleaf—a symbol of musical unity—is impressively brought to life through sound. Three solo instruments from the traditional brass band tradition perform as a resonant trio—independently, yet always in harmony with the orchestra. The soloists introduce themselves as early as the quiet introduction before entering into a balanced, dialogic exchange with the orchestra. Thematically, the soloists and the full orchestra complement each other to form a cohesive whole that embodies the character of a typical traditional polka. In the trio section, a short cadenza adds special highlights and gives the soloists room to demonstrate their skills once again. It combines the joy of playing, tradition, and musical harmony—a work with an unmistakable signature that delights musicians and audiences alike.
