Description:
This work was commissioned by the "Musikverein Turnau" - Kapellmeister Erwin Hofer - in 2018 to mark the 750th anniversary of Turnau. One of the main requirements was to incorporate the "Erzherzog Johann Lied" into the composition. Par force horns and a choir were also to be used at the premiere in Turnau (both not obligatory for further performances). In keeping with the occasion, the composition begins with the sound of fanfares; as the composition progresses, the "Erzherzog Johann Lied" appears in various facets and in different guises. In the end, the song shines - how could it be otherwise - in a groovy, modern version, as Archduke Johann went down in history as the great modernizer in Styria. There were two suggestions for the title of the composition. In the end, "Das Tor zum Hochschwab" prevailed over the alternative title "Archduke Johnny".
