Giuseppe Verdi's opera 'Un Ballo in Maschera' contains two famous soprano roles, strong male solo roles, fine choruses and sharp dramatic situations. And yet it is not quite as popular as some other Verdi operas preceding and following it. The aria 'Di' tu se fedele' is sung by Riccardo in the first act: he asks a fortune-teller (Ulrica) about his love and future, only to receive a dark prophecy about being killed by the next man who shakes his hand, a prophecy fulfilled by his friend Renato, leading to his death.
