Description:
The composer Franz Schubert (1797-1828) left behind an extensive musical oeuvre and is considered one of the most important representatives of Romanticism. In addition to large orchestral works - including stage music and a total of twelve (partly unfinished) symphonies - his oeuvre also includes numerous sacred works and a huge treasure trove of chamber music. The Austrian composer made a name for himself above all as a composer of lieder, but many (lighter) pieces for piano are also directly associated with the work and person of Franz Schubert. The word "ecossaise" comes from the French and means "Scottish". Originally conceived as a Scottish circle dance in odd meter, it developed over time into a group or folk dance in 2/4 time. These two ecossaises are from the collection D299 (Deutsch-Verzeichnis), which contains a total of twelve short pieces for piano. Without distorting the simplicity of Schubert's original, Alfred Bösendorfer has created two wonderful little works for wind orchestra. They are ideal for familiarizing young musicians with the music of the Romantic period and the works of Franz Schubert. eXplora Grade 2 eXplora Disc 21
