Description:
Almost everyone knows the great march compositions by John Philip Sousa. Less well known are his operettas. The operetta "El Capitan" was first performed on April 13, 1896 at the Tremont Theatre in Boston and a week later on Broadway in New York. The march of the same name with themes from the operetta is one of the most beautiful by the great American march composer. A special feature of the march "El Capitan" are the two different time signatures. The first part begins in 6/8 time, the trio is in 2/4 time and ends with the same rousing theme that ends the operetta.
