Description:
Festive Music, Op. 25 was composed for the inauguration of the Royal Dramatic Theatre in 1908. The commission however caused concern for Alfvén until he paid Verner von Heidenstam a visit. The poet was describing in sweeping pictures King Karl XII and his army's adventures in Poland, and Alfvén was immediately inspired. The result was festive music in the form of a Polonaise.
