Finlandia, op. 26, by the composer Jean Sibelius, is one of the most important works in the Finnish symphonic repertoire. Composed in 1899, it is set in the context of the national awakening under Russian rule and embodies a powerful patriotic spirit. The sombre and dramatic introduction already foreshadows struggle and oppression, before a noble and radiant theme unfolds, which has become a true anthem of freedom. This famous chorale, often referred to as the "Finlandia Hymn", touches the listener with its simplicity and emotional depth. Sibelius' musical language is characterized by strong contrasts, great expressiveness and rich orchestration. In this arrangement for wind orchestra, Bertrand Moren succeeds in preserving the full power and grandeur of the original.
