Fragile' is a song by English singer/songwriter Sting (Gordon Sumner). It appeared in 1987 as an album track on Nothing Like the Sun. He also made versions in Spanish ('Fragilidad') and Portuguese ('Frágil'). In April 1988, A&M Records released the original version as a single. He wrote the song in response to the murder of Ben Linder, who was doing volunteer work in Nicaragua and was killed there by the Contras. It is a song about violence and the fragility of life in the face of terrorism. However, the meaning of the song is not fixed for him. The song's popularity increased after the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York. He also performed it at the benefit concert America: 'A Tribute to Heroes.' During a performance in response to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, he dedicated 'Fragile' to the victims of that disaster and expressed concern about the fragility of the ecosystem. By the way, Sting sold his entire catalog, of about 600 titles in early 2022 to Universal Music Group. The acquisition includes well-known hits such as 'Message in a Bottle,' 'Every Breath You Take,' and this song 'Fragile' and also includes all the songs he wrote for 'The Police.' The deal, which is reportedly worth about $300 million, includes the copyrights all of his music as well as future royalties on his catalog, which rights continue for 70 years after his death. Rob Balfoort arranged this beautiful title for concert band, in which the acoustic guitar is a 'must have' but the vocals are optional.
